There are never any fees to stay at David’s House. We do accept donations, but there is never any pressure from our Staff for someone to donate, as their focus while here should be on their family. 

Call (603) 643-2298 to request a room. First-time room requests are not taken by email – Please note that we do not take referrals or third-party-made room requests. After you have provided us with some basic information and completed our background check process, your name will be placed on a Room Request list for the day you wish to arrive. Staff will contact you within 24 hours of your intended stay to confirm that we have a room available that meets your needs. Please be sure to provide us with accurate contact information for every adult in your party. 

David’s House strives to create a safe, home-like environment for you and your family, as well as all families staying here. Background checks are done to protect your safety and the safety of all guests, staff, and volunteers. The process is simple and usually takes less than 1 hour. Because David’s House has a limited number of rooms, we have to consider all requests before assigning available rooms for a specific day. Due to the uncertainties that arise during healthcare treatment, we need to be sure that a current guest is leaving before we reassign the room. Your place on the room request list is not affected by when your request was made. We will do everything possible to accommodate your needs or work with you to find alternative arrangements in the very rare event that the house is full.

Since we do not utilize a reservation system, you are welcome to stay as long as your family has a hospital-related need for local lodging and you are abiding by the house rules. Generally, this aligns with the in-patient treatment plan duration. For outpatient appointments, staying the night before or the night of an appointment is common, especially with inclement weather. Regardless of your needs, we do ask that you communicate often with our Staff about shifting needs over your stay with us. 

Our house has 20 private bedrooms; these rooms share 11 single-person bathrooms - We're essentially a really big house with some offices!

Yes, please ask them to include your name and your child’s name on any correspondence.

Day Guests can use all of our services and facilities apart from a room for the night. They are welcome to do laundry, prepare a snack or meal, use our playground, take a shower, or just relax in a third space between the hospital and home. The room request process is the same as that for an overnight stay.

Yes! There are two adjoining kitchens at David’s House for guests to share, with all of the utensils and kitchen gadgets any chef needs. Guests are welcome and encouraged to bring their own food, especially if they have particular preferences or dietary needs. We provide some pantry items, breakfast foods, and snacks, as well as meals prepared by volunteers, many nights of the week. Along with shelter and food, we provide some toiletries, free laundry facilities, and supplies, a wide range of toys and entertainment, as well as quilts and stuffed animals for kids to take home. Our on-site program managers provide on-call emergency assistance overnight (9:PM-7:AM), and management staff are available during the day (7:AM-9:PM). We're able to share time with you to talk, try to help with needs, or be a listening ear. But since none of our small team of staff are trained for long-term emotional or social support, we do encourage families to talk to their unit social worker for professional assistance. 

Families can use their own vehicles or enjoy a short walk to the medical center. The Dartmouth Health Security Department also provides courtesy rides between David’s House and the hospital. Their number is 603-650-7896, then select option 2. 

Please note: The Security Department may be busy with calls, but they will get to you as soon as they can - The designated pick-up spot here at the house is on the walkway next to our flagpole. The Security Department asks that you be ready and at or in view of the shuttle stop when you make your call for a courtesy ride.

While David's House doesn't have souvenirs, we do have several local quilting guilds who generously donate quilts stitched with love to give to our Guests - David's House gives every child (patient or family member of a patient) a beautiful quilt to take home with them upon their first check-in. If you've stayed with us and would like a quilt, or have a special theme for a quilt in mind, please email Todd.

For food deliveries, we ask that you're here to meet the driver. For packages, if you're not here, our housekeeper will put the package in your room for you. 

Please make staff aware if you're anticipating any phone calls or any visitors. Due to privacy and safety needs, David's House will not disclose whether someone is staying here or not under any circumstances (unless required by law/our policy) without the person's permission in advance.
